Day 1

So, this being the start of the journey, let me begin with a short list of my beliefs and where I am coming from.

I believe in evolution. I believe that the earth is billions of years old, and was created like all other planets.
I believe that homosexuality is not a choice, and they should have all the rights as the rest of us.
I believe in a woman's right to choose based on certain circumstances when it comes to abortion.
I believe in birth control, smoking, drinking, and gambling.

What I hope to gain from this journey is a better understanding of Christians, and a better understanding of the book that is the foundation of our US government. I don't expect this to be an easy journey. Lots of questions are going to pop up, and in the end this blog will be mostly questions that I hope other Christians are asking themselves on their beliefs, and I believe that's what Jesus would want you to do. Ask questions and get educated.
Growing up Catholic makes this transition much easier for me compared to others who are atheist. Making a conscious decision to pursue Christ with no beneficial expectations is a hard thing if you can't even understand believing in an invisible deity in the clouds. Keep note though that I'm a horrible example of a Catholic. Don't base other Catholics on myself.

In the Beginning...

Every Christian has to start somewhere. For most, either they are born into it or have a life changing revelation. Others find themselves in the pits of despair with only Jesus to turn to.

I'm in the "girlfriend converted me" group. With that being said though, I have taken this as an opportunity to learn what I never learned growing up. I grew up Catholic, but in our family it was treated more of a culture, and less of a religion. I grew up in a very relaxed environment, where religion wasn't centrally focused on at all except for a routine visit to the church on Sunday, which eventually stopped. Most of my relatives are hardcore Democrats, and with it comes a very open opinion on people's freedoms.

I decided to pick up the bible, and really understand it and try to follow it as best as I know with what I've found as right in my social upbringing. I'm naturally a good person, but now I have to see how that translates to being a good Christian.

Having never needed to ask God for much, and growing up in a very well off lifestyle, I wanted to dive into this with eyes wide open. Expecting nothing in return for this, I have no expectations other than knowledge and maybe something more will grow from it. I hope this does the same for others in my position, as well as entertains those whom are already Christians.
